Nip Writer’s Block in the Bud

Writer’s block is a common affliction that can happen to even the most talented and prolific artists. But you shouldn’t let it hinder your creativity. With a little effort, you can rise above your slump and start writing up a storm. Just follow my tips and you’ll be on track once again.

  1. First you need to chill out. Focusing on your lack of creativity is only going to exaggerate and magnify the problem. Give yourself the opportunity to relax and let the creative juices flow naturally rather than forcing it.
  2. Get out and do something new. There is nothing more inspiring than heading to a new and exotic place. You of course don’t have to fly to Sri Lanka or Egypt to gain this kind of fresh perspective, unless you can afford to. Just take the time at least once or twice a week to head off to a new place in your city.
  3. Get outside and be one with nature. Beautiful blue skies and lush green trees will no doubt spark some creativity for you.
  4. Embrace other forms of art out there. If you write poems, short stories or books, then head to an art museum and embrace some oil paintings instead. It’ll get your mind off of your lack of creativity and inadvertently inspire your work at a later time.
  5. Take up a new form of art. Just like embracing oil paintings can increase your creativity, so can painting them. Even if you aren’t any good, it’ll be a great way for you to stretch your way of thinking. So head out and buy that easel.
  6. Attend a workshop. Many bookstores offer writing workshops and it’ll be a great way for you to speak with other writers and bounce off ideas.
